Chateau Monlot - Claude Bourguignon

Claude Bourguignon is the director and founder, along with his wife Lydia Bourguignon, of the Laboratoire d’Analyses Microbiologiques des Sols (LAMS). This independent laboratory was founded in 1990 and during the past 20 years, they have become recognized authorities on soil health and protection.

His in-depth knowledge of the soil’s ecology and agronomy along with many years of working with the well known Romanée-Conti vineyards and other prestigious châteaux, has helped him aid Château Monlot produce the best quality of grapes.

Château Monlot has 3 sections of vineyard, totaling 7 hectares; from which Mr. Bourguignon took a total of 15 soil samples from different areas of the property, so that he could analyze the soil composition and thus optimize grape cultivation. Knowing the soil make-up means you can grow the best grape possible in the set conditions, to make a better wine. Mr. Bourguignon also examined the root growth of the vines because thick, deep roots are essential for a healthy grape vine. The roots at Château Monlot plunge about 1.5 meters into the soil, which is a good sign as it shows Château Monlot’s enormous potential for making better quality wines.

Mr. Bourguignon, along with all the passionate winegrowers who make up the Château Monlot staff, ensure that Château Monlot’s wine is crafted with only the best fruit of the harvest. Grapes are always hand-picked and gently pressed. Production in our state-of-the-art facilities is limited, ensuring the highest level of craftsmanship possible.
